All, or part, of the region has been called some variation of Palestine by the Egyptians, Assyrians, Babylonians, Persians, Greeks (Aristotle considered the Dead Sea to be "in Palestine"), Western Romans, Christian pilgrims, Eastern Romans, early Muslims (Filastin), Christian crusaders, Ottomans, British, and even the first Zionist congress (19th century) that wanted to create a home "in Palestine". It was Israel that ceased to exist. Even the Israelites became Judahites (Jews). Even when they wrote down their religion, during Babylonian exile, it became known as Judaism, not Israelism.
