Weird, how descendants of fascist Batista supporters vote right wing.

@mgrey24 Batista, himself, has descendants living in the US, let alone all of his supporters, and those who got rich under his rule, who also fled to the US. It was, literally, a fascist government. That a good percentage of Cubans are their descendants is just a fact.

Centre-right? Economically, he's to the right of most Canadian Conservative party members.

@tomitiustritus6672 Sure, but we're talking about the ones who voted for Trump. 100% of Cubans didn't vote for Trump. Over a quarter of Cuban refugees came in the first wave, and were Batista administration, soldiers, government workers, the rich and upper middle class, etc. They set up the community. They provided the manpower who worked with the US government to try and retake Cuba. They provided the extremists who committed terrorist acts and assassinations. They had a few years, to a decade, head start to settle and grow their families. Etc. If about 50% of Cubans support Trump, they and their descendants are likely the majority of that 50%.

Allan Kaiser A good percentage of Cubans were, literally, fascist Batista supporters, or are descendants of those people. They've always had a higher percentage of right wingers than other Hispanic Americans.

@daciefusjones8128 The only problem with sticking to your Overton window, is that you give the far right the green light to call centrism "far left" or "extreme left". The US has Republican politicians, and even a Libertarian party, who promote an Ayn Rand philosophy. The actual far right is represented. Progressives, like Bernie, aren't proposing anything that would move the US left of Denmark, a centrist country. Zero viable US politicians are promoting a 100% publicly owned and operated economy, and an end to capitalism ... no actual far left represented.
