  2. @Kiflaam It was to pay for the French and Indian War, which was in the Americas. Colonialists didn't want to pay for troops to police or defend them. Napoleonic wars came decades later. But, my point was more about just how much the US went on to pay for policing and the military. Americans would be spending about half as much on the military, now, as they currently are, if they were spending at UK levels.
