  1. To be clear, Venezuela nationalized one freakin resource. It's not an outright socialist government. It is a mixed economy, just like almost every other country on the planet is. They were simply too dependent on that one resource, weren't building savings, and oil prices dropped. Saudi also had some problems when prices dropped, but they had more savings and had started diversifying their economy already, so weathered the storm better. Then outside forces have made things worse for Venezuela.
