@kylemcdonnell86 How is the US response being one of the worst in the world, not its leaders faults? If Trump couldn't have done anything more, then how did other countries manage to do so much more?

@kylemcdonnell86 On top of mask using countries doing better, countries with higher testing rates did better. Countries like S Korea, New Zealand, Australia, that quickly flattened their curves, quickly got their testing rates up to 50+ people per confirmed case. Some countries in Europe, and Canada, that had slower flattening, but better than the US, tested at rates of 15+ people per confirmed case. The US tested at a rate of 5 people per confirmed case for months, only recently getting that testing rate up to about 13 people per confirmed case. You just can't get ahead of the virus at 5 people per confirmed case. It's a pathetically low rate of testing.

@KenS1267 Biden might be more in line with Canada's Liberal party on some social issues, but on economic issues, he'd be right of the Conservative party.

@mayman4255 Not liking someone doing it is different from saying "no" to "most conservative" (in another country) and then basically turning around and arguing yourself that they were, in fact, right. No sense, and useless. Btw, there were fucking communists, and a communist party, in Germany. They had a huge window to both extremes. Trump would have been one of the rich dudes who backed and joined the Nazi party.

@ferox965 I'm also Canadian. Our conservatives made an attempt at having a Republican like party (Reform/Alliance), and it failed miserably. They had to pull back to the current Conservative party. If the party didn't support our national healthcare system, they'd also fail miserably. Nobody can say whether Joe would change his position under different circumstances, but his current healthcare platform would be right of the Conservatives. His military funding levels would be right of the Conservatives. He has been, at least, as much of a warhawk as our Conservatives. The new Conservative leader was just pandering to unions not long ago, while Joe feels comfortable railing against socialism and possibly losing votes, and prefers pandering to the US right for more votes. Etc.

@KenS1267 With US deduction levels and dodges, it won't be as progressive as it might look on paper. After years of the Conservative party controlling the government, we still have a minimum tax. A Trump likely wouldn't get away with paying only $750 in income tax.

@arleneirvine1526 Basically, you leave off any political positions that aren't really viable in that specific country, and judge "right" and "left" based solely on what remains. So, if the US doesn't have any viable parties, or politicians, left of an actual 50/50 centrist position, then that centrist position becomes "far left". It's kind of nonsensical, and allows for actual Ayn Rand spouting extremists to call true centrists extremists.

@ferox965 Yeah, the Fords are/were looney. I think there's something in the TO water, and out in Alberta they're drunk on oil. But, 80+% of Canadians still hate Trump, so that's a good sign.
