I'd let "gaslighting" broaden to also falsely portraying someone else as insane (likely the same one you're trying to make feel insane), to others ... the abusive spouse making out like the abused spouse is the crazy one, when the cops show up, for example. But, yeah, just using it to mean "lie" or "mislead" is too much.

  2.  @PhilLesh69  Simply recruiting people isn't specifically making someone out to be crazy, just like simply lying isn't specifically trying to make someone feel crazy.
