However things went down with the first guy, the second two believed they were chasing down a criminal, an active shooter. They were the "good guy with a gun", or a skateboard, and the law allows some degree of force to try and apprehend someone you believe has committed a crime. If Kyle gets off, this would seem to set a precedent that criminals being chased by citizens can kill them in "self defense".

@ericw9702 The police were in sight of the first shooting, were they, and did nothing to either apprehend the shooter, or stop people from chasing him? That's news.
