It's not like they never get cold spells. Plus, even if you thought weatherizing was a waste of money, they have also been hit by hurricanes. Having a totally independent grid, not even emergency access to a neighboring grid, is stupid.

@willywood6508 My use of language is as a Canadian. What Texas is going through, right now, is a f-ing "cold spell", to me, moron. Texas and Louisiana were hit with a big snow storm in 2007, that caused power outages. I'm assuming they make their wind turbines, and other sources of power, to last more than 15 years. They should have been winterized. And, nothing else you said makes up for the stupid decision to have a grid that's completely independent from surrounding states.
