Those people would not be favourable to granting India independence had we not used non violent means and showed the world the righteousness of the cause of liberty. It's not always force that has to win or show a way. The British Empire was a superpower which got a bulk of its troops and resources from India...and India, the crown jewel, leaving it was the coffin that broke it. We had been fighting with guns for ages too. 200 years. At the end, there was a naval mutiny and an An Indian national army.

@joj9750 India was more valuable than the US to the UK. The industrial revolution was made with India's resources and the goods were dumped here too. USA simply exported cotton I think ....we were exploited for everything and turned into a dumping ground after our industries were destroyed. A bulk of British troops was indian too. More than a million volunteer soldiers during both the world wars. I was editing my answer, sorry. Anyway both points are valid. Diplomacy is as valid as Guns etc, and often the only recourse. When you have guns as big as nukes, you can't fire them anymore without dying.

@joj9750 also..there have been no countries other than India who got independence with a largely non violent movement but there are plenty of countries other than the US who have achieved independence from the British Empire and comparative superpowers. France was a superpower too. Without France, the US would not have got independence. India had no help from any country at the time of its first revolutions.. We did have help from the USA ironically enough. Haiti got freedom from this superpower just 30 years after the USA with a violent revolution. The Spanish were a superpower. Several Spanish colonies achieved independence...with violent means. Anyway both countries fought Cornwallis man. We've been screwed over, we've moved on, some before others. Kudos to you for getting it before others and making the world's first and strongest democracy.
