When I was employed as a Senior dev, I often "joked" that on an average day in the office, I write maybe 3-5 lines of code. The truth isn't very far from that, unless there's some high priority work (few days ago I started a new office project on a Sunday, because I was bored - I understand the business needs, but there's no requirements written... I spent maybe 6 hours prototyping and got about 1/3rd the needs done, ballpark maybe 200 lines of code, no tests).

@thatoneuser8600 Did you see my use of past tense? Did you note that I was prototyping, on a weekend? Or did you only note that I wrote no tests (on that Sunday)? You also assume that I call myself anything - when in fact my job title now is Architect. Some of us are able to conceptualise what the code is doing, without the need to prove it. Production code requires tests, prototypes do not.

What other professions learn at home, off the clock? Teachers, solicitors, doctors/nurses, pretty much anyone that is an instructor in their field (think, fire marshals, first on scene medics, etc), and those are just the ones that immediately fall out of my brain. Pretty much anyone that takes their job seriously, and enjoys it, wants to learn more in their "off clock" time. Note, the "junior" roles in any job don't understand this, I just felt like I was lucky to get in the door back then...
