"Someone must be typing in the date"... nope... mail merge was entirely possible back in the 90's, to do things such as `date = now() + 10 days` Could easily automate the whole printing/packaging/bundling for loading on to a Royal Mail truck. In fact, if they are doing 5000 visits per time period (lets say that's a month) - and lets assume that 50% of visits get an automated letter in the post... that's still 80+ letters per day. Much better to pay for the machinery than to pay a human to get involved.
