  1. Chamberlain was playing for time after years of lack of military investment during the 20 years since WWI. When he returned from his meeting with Hitler he said now we have peace, prepare for war. Without that time we would not have been better prepared for war when it came in 1939. I'm surprised the IWM doesnt know this, it's all on record.
