  1. The word slave comes from the white Slavic peoples of eastern Europe who were enslaved by Muslims in the 9th century. Also, I remember a popular black Chef in England called Ainsley Harriot who had a 'Who do you think you Are' programme made about him. He knew he came from the West Indies, but was shocked and angry to find out his ancestors were slaves.......... that's untill they told him that his ancestors were also slave owners. 'Slavery is far more complicated' he later said, after reflecting on this bombshell.
