@@retiredbore378 That's not true, the Reliant engine was an original design that had its roots back in the 1930s and was based on an Austin 7 engine. Long before the Chinese were manufacturing anything of use.

@jonathangriffin1120 Austin sold all the manufacturing rights to Reliant when they stopped production of the Sustin 7 in the 1930s. Reliant made many changes to the design though it was still a side vale right up to the 1960s. The new engine was overhead valve and the first mass produced aluminium engine in Europe and though it is claimed this was based on a cast iron Chinese version of the Standard SC, this too was based on the Austin 7 engine.
