In 1940 the French army was the largest and best equipped in Europe and was considered a formidable force. Yet when the Germans attacked, it collapsed in only 6 weeks, why ? Because France was destroyed from within, by the same subversives that Simon is describing today here in Britain.

@johnforeman6620 I don't think the French were 'over confident'. They also didnt just sit behind their lines ? They actually invaded Germany in the Sarr offensive and also fought in Norway along with the British against the Nazi invaders. Nevertheless, they were undermined from within by militants leaving vital parts off their military equipment rendering them useless. They were also led by generals who thought they were still fighting the 1st world war and were completely overwhelmed by the German onslaught. The British expeditionary force were far better led and fought very well as the Germans admitted when they were planning to invade. However, the point I was trying to make was, that political subversion can destroy a country from within, just as France suffered then, but Britain didn't because we were then a united homogeneous society who fought together and so defeated Nazism. Though just like France then, we are suffering this subversion now.

@jjr1728 No, I'm not confused, the attack through the Ardennes was not expected but it was far from the only reason they were defeated. The Nazis tried exactly the same in 1944 with a 2nd surprise attack at the Ardennes. We know it as the battle of the bulge but it failed.

@johnforeman6620 Yes, and I wasn't trying to have a discussion on WW2, I was only pointing out how subversion seriously undermined the French war efforts. However, the best French soldiers were waiting on the Belgium border where the Maginot line finished and further south. However, the Germans broke through the Ardenne and cut the French army in half. No doubt there was anti war dissent in Britain too, but no where on the scale it was in France, no British military supplies were disabled by political militants, as they were in France. And that was the point I was trying to make, not have a discussion about WW2.
