My French wife and I have just returned from a holiday in Wales and were delighted to hear the wide use of the Welsh language. She herself is a linguist and speaks 4 languages. She has lived here for over 20years now, but when she first arrived she was shocked to see all the translations of UK Government documents into a multitude of foreign languages. She was even more shocked when we visited east London and saw street signs in Bengali. In France there are no translations of Government documents or street signs, everything is written in French. Why ? Because its France, and if you want to live there and integrate you are expected to learn the language as a first step to integrate. And if you don't want to, why exactly are you there ? The Welsh should do the same, and fight this anti Welsh racist policy !
