  9.  @cymro6537  England is the largest country by far in Great Britain and when the Germans were planning to invade they planned to invade England first, not Wales or Scotland. There are more people living in London than in the whole of Scotland and Wales combined and that's just one city in England. Therefore of course they had England written on the map, that's where the Germans were invading. Also Vera Lynn was an English singer, singing about her own country. Just as Welsh singers sang about about Wales, and Scottish singers sang about Scotland. But there were also many British patriotic songs sang for us all combined. Of course a family talking about their currency called it English currency it says it's from the Bank of England on the notes. But again if they had been Welsh or Scots they would have called it after their own country where they use it. In fact Scottish money has it written on it too, just as it does on English money. Nevertheless, the term Sterling is also English and comes from the Old English word 'Stiere' which means, Strong, Firm, Immovable. Also the St George's flag was introduced by the Norman's it's hardly English. We don't even have Saints in the Anglican religion even when that religion was dominant. The original pre Norman English flag was more like the Welsh flag but consisted of a white dragon on a red background and was flown by King Harold when he defeated the Norse army at the battle of Stanford Bridge in 1066 before the battle of Hastings.
