  1. Slavery was actualy banned in England since the 12th century. In 1772 a freed American slave called James Somerset was released from captivity after Lord Chief Justice Mansfield's judgement that confirmed slavery in England was illegal. So Mansfield never originated the law, he just confirmed it.
