@Schlipperschlopper That's yet another reason why the UK left the EU dictatorship.

@Andrew Ball Thomas cook was also taken over by a German company stripped of cash and run into the ground. There is a pattern forming here ! BMW only took over Rover because the cars they were making with Honda were taking BMW market share. BMW took them over, kept the bits they wanted and then split the company up, so the competition was removed. The Phoenix four were cowboys who were desperate for Chinese cash, but the Chinese got them drunk before they signed all their design rights over to them and so were no longer interested. It's a sad story of a great car maker destroyed by people who had no loyalty to the marque. Though Tata, owners of the four wheel drive half of Rover are rumoured to be making a Roadrover, in effect a new Rover car, so all is not lost.

@FrightfulAccountant Rover couldn't shake off being asset stripped by British Aerospace and then by BMW who also broke the company in two and left the rump to whither. Honda was the only brief ray of sunshine soon extinguished by BMWs acquisition.

I had a 414 that had a R65 gearbox which was very smooth and precise, so I actualy preferred it to the gearbox in my current 2002 45, which is presumably the Ford gearbox.

@JR90. They like to be revved, that's why Lotus, Caterham and Ariel all fitted them.

What a beautifully classy Austin, pity you can't but buy one today its far better and more desirable than anything currently available.

I used to work with an elderly gentleman who had owned an Austin 7. He told me that after having an accident and denting the wing he bashed it out with a hammer and then filed it flat before painting it black again. Imagine trying to do that on a modern car? The Austin wing must have been quite thick metal to do that to it.

I remember going on a trip down the medway in the 1960s on a boat like the Medway Queen, perhaps it was her? Though I do remember seeing her in the 1980s on the Isle of Wight where she looked abandoned and dilapidated. I later heard that she had been rescued and was being repaired, no doubt the very same people that are rebuilding her here. Also my 20 year old father serving with the Royal Engineers was rescued from Dunkirk on the 29th of May 1940, he was one of the later ones to leave.
