@bigwoody4704 I find it very interesting that when Rommel had superior equipment and could knock out British tanks from out of their range, he was a brilliant General and tactician. But when the roles were reversed and Monty had the superior fire power he only won because of it, yeah right ! 😊

@bigwoody4704 Montgomery was in command of all ground troops, so couldn't be everywhere.

@bigwoody4704 What nonsense ! Montgomery planned and defeated Rommel at Al Alemein and kicked the Axis out of North Africa completely in May 1943 taking a record 530,000 prisoners on par with Stalingrad. He then helped plan operation Husky the largest amphibious landing in history and drive out the Axis forces in record time from Sicily. This defeat led to Mussolini being deposed and the Nazis main allies changing side. Monty then was the first to land on Mainland italy, opening up Europe's second front. He was later recalled from Italy to plan the DDay landing which he led. Caen was a strategically important hub for the Axis forces and all their top troops were diverted there to defend it, allowing US troops the opportunity to break out from their bridge head further south. Montgomery then led his forces up into Holland and Market Garden was the result of compromise. Montgomery had always wanted to mount a strong concentrated attack, but Eisenhower the overall commander wantted a wider attack. After the war, German General Blumentritt admitted that : if Montys 21st Army group had been unleashed earlier in the concentrated narrow fron as Monty wished he would have ended the war in the winter of 1944. However, this was not to be, yet he still ended up taken the German unconditional surrender at Lunberg Heath on the 4th May 1945. That's a pretty impressive record by anyones standard, though no doubt other less successful Generals will find fault.

@frankmueller2781 'Rommels victory in France' ??????? What are you on about? Rommel was only a Panzer tank commander in France in 1940. Gerd Von Rundstedt was the Army Commander who ordered the break through at the Ardennes . Rommel was under his command , but disobeyed orders and out ran his lines and backup. This made him very vulnerable and he nearly got caught by the British at Arras when they attacked and broke through his formations and almost caught him. but they didnt even know who he was and didnt have enough tanks to finish them off. Thats because the Brits were not as well supplied as you claim, in fact the Army had been so underfunded many of their vehicles were commandeered civilian vehicles. Also, if Rommel was such a great General how come Montgomery beat him every time they met ? The first time was at Alam el Halfa when Rommel had 6 division to Montgomery 4 but Montgomery still beat him and Rommel was beaten every single time they met afterwards. Also the British attack at Arras in France 1940 is why the Nazis stopped their advance to the coast, because after Arras they realised being too far ahead of their infantry and supply lines made them vulnerable. It was Von Rundstedt who ordered the halt order and that is what allowed the British to evacuate their troops from Dunkirk. Also in 1940 It was actually the French who were well supplied, but they had been infiltrated and betrayed. Many French believed in Nazism and collaborated with them. In fact, right at the end of the war it was French SS soldiers who were fighting to protect Hitler in the Reichstag. This was just before the Nazis unconditional surrender to Montgomery at Lünburg Heath in 1945. So no, Montgomery couldn't walk on water no one can, that's a Myth. However, he was one of the finest Commander in WW2 as his many triumphs and victories testify.

@johnburns4017 Exactly , yet Rommel is praised as a military genius while Montgomery, who beat him every single time they met is criticised. However, Monty's day will come, "In time all things are revealed, time is the father of truth"

@bigwoody4704 As I said, Rommel often had more than equal supplies when he triumphed, and when he did he was the master tactician. But when the roles were reversed, Monty was accused of only winning due to oversupply. Both opinions are obviously bollocks !

@johnburns4017 Yes, and here is a list of Rommels victories over Monntgomery : Errr ........ 0........ 👍🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

@bigwoody4704 Rommel, Hitlers favourite Nazi General didn't need to blow his own trumpet. Oh no, he had the whole of Goebbels very efficient propaganda department blowing it for him. They would arrive in the desert and take specially posed photos of a determined Rommel looking like a movie star staring out across the vast desert with a determined look on his face while mounted heroically in a tank. These photos would then appear together in the press with overblown articles describing Rommels military brilliance. And this propaganda was so impressive that even now in the 21st century there are still people around who continue to be fooled by it.
