Lotus wanted to develop the Rover K series but BMW refused to allow it, they didnt want any Rover developed like the Lotus Cortina to challenge their own models.

@Duskconqueror Unfortunately Rover were lacking the money necessary, and BMW undermined them at every turn.

@paulriggers1558 BMW also stopped the MGf from being sold in the USA as it was competition for their sports model. They also prematurely stopped production of the Rover 600 despite having strong sales figure for the same reason. I didn't realise they kept the hydrolastic suspension patents, but I did know that they kept the Triumph name and recently re registered it. I wonder if it was another attempt to stop competition, as Triumph motorcycles are doing very well, perhaps it's to stop them manufacturing a car?

I've had three K series engines a Rover metro 8 valve 1100cc. A Rover 414 si 1400cc 16 vavle and a Rover 45 1400cc 16 valve which I still have. Yet I've never had a head gasket go on any of them. I'm beginning to wonder if the stories about the Rover K series hgf is just a myth.
