The Germanic people's originated in Scandinavia. However, far too many people confuse Germanic and German, but they are not the same.

Our ancestors were illiterate because they didn't really need to read and write. The only thing they would know of written down was religious text, and the Pope didn't want ordinary people reading that. He preferred to keep it mysterious and have the Church interpretate it for you. Imagine an illiterate person seeing a priest reading out verses of scripture from strange shapes on a page, he would have been in awe at such magic.

Surely you are incorrect to say that the English have no 'Celtic' DNA? I thought that a recent (2016) DNA study had shown that the majority of English DNA 70% is actually from the original Celtic people with only 30% Anglo Saxon in most of England, as well as in Scotland and Wales. Rising to 38% in eastern England centred around their heart lands of East Anglia. Also the latest theory is that the Scandanavians had a much older presence in Briton than was at first thought so when the related Anglo Saxons arrived they all spoke a similar language. Though I believe, Anglo Saxon and Danish DNA are pretty much the same.
