@JohnKobaRuddy Anyone born in the British isles is considered British if they chose to be, including the Irish. Just as we are all European too.

@JohnKobaRuddy The island of Ireland is the second largest of the 6,000 islands that make up the British isles which lie just off the coast of the European continent. Therefore, anyone living in any of the 4 countries on these islands can claim their nationality, their island location or their continent as their place of residence. So in theory a Dubliner could claim to be British just as many Irishman in the past did. However, today due to Nationalist bigotry it's no longer acceptable. Judging by your last remark, I suspect you fall under this description.

The 'Halt Order' at Dunkirk did not come from Hitler, so he can't be blamed for it. After the British attack at Arrass alarmed German high command they ordered the halt to allow their stretched infantry and supplies lines to catch up. They were worried this attack could repeat the WW I 'Miracle of the Marne' when British troops attacked the very similar stretched lines of the German advance and along with the French pushed them all the way back to where they had started. Hitler only agreed to the Halt after they had already authorised it. However, while they rested, German army group B took over the attack from the North, so it wasn't really a Halt, more of a change of emphasis. Army group A needed to rest and regroup to attack further south, because they thought the BEF was trapped at Dunkirk and couldn't go anywhere, they were wrong !

@jb7483 This is not true. It was Gudarian who translated British General Fullers tank tactics into German with his own money and used them to great affect. General Fuller was the only foreigner invited to Hitlers birthday parade in 1939 by the fuhrer personally. Hitler watched the hours long parade with Fuller and asked him: 'what he thought of his children' as hundreds of tanks roared past the window. Rommel was actually an Infantry officer and wrote a book on infantry tactics, not armoured warfare.

Hitler didnt 'drive out the BEF' ! The BEF was the smallest force there and was sent to assist the French and Belgium forces who were both far larger. Yet despite this, the BEF advanced while both the French and Belgiums retreated leaving the BEF flanks exposed and forcing them to retreat too. If Hitler ever thought he was a military genius, which is doubtful. It would have been after defeating the Polish, the Dutch and Belgium Armies but particularly after defeating the French who were considered the finest and best equiped Army in Europe at the time, yet the Germans defeated them in only 6 weeks. So if Hitler felt any sense of pride at this time, it was certainly justified.

Rommel was actually a N4zi war criminal and would have faced judgment at Nuremberg if he had lived. Also Rommels initial success in North Africa was not caused by British incompetence as claimed, but by American security leaks from their Egyptian embassy. Through these leaks, Rommel knew exactly British strengths and weakness which he exploited to his advantage gaining the name the Desert Fox. Once the anti British American attaché was discovered and returned to America. After General Montgomery arrived, Rommels successes evaperated and he never won another battle.

@JohnKobaRuddy The Irish live in the British isles so they are as British as the English, Scots and Welsh.

@danteardenz2670 The 'Rotten Boroughs' were dissolved after the Reform riots of 1831.

@stischer47 Rommel was Hitlers golden boy and was the subject of much manufactured propoganda. Many of the familiar photographs of him looking out across the desert through his binoculars were actually painstakingly posed and taken by his official camera crew. Also Patton was lucky to have a very popular film made about him with an excellent performance by George C Scott. Many people seem to think it is a documentary.

@stischer47 Rommel was a N4zi poster boy and had a photography crew with him taking lots of posed photos for propoganda purposes. Patton was made famous by the film, but many people seem to think it was a documentary. However, its only loosely based on facts and was made purely for entertainment.
