There would not have been a Cold War if Normandy had never happened and instead Churchil had got his way and the advance through Italy hadn't been slowed down by all their best men and equipment being taken for it. If the advance through italy hadnt been hamstrung, the war would have ended earlier and the Russians would not have advanced into eastern Europe. But Eisenhower fell for Joe Stalins call for a slowdown in Italy and a new attack through France. Just what old Joe wanted, Europe handed to him on a plate.
