Penda the last pagan Anglosaxon King ??????? Or was he ? Penda is a Brythonic name and his alliance with the Welsh Kings of the time makes it sound even more doubtful that he was really an Anglosaxon. Even Alfred the Greats Kindom of Wessex was started by his ancestor Cerdic yet another Brythonic name as were his son Cynric etc. So it seems that the story of the Angles Saxons and Brythonic peoples of Britain are not as clearly defined as the invasion theory would have us believe.

@TheHistoryChap It's hard to find evidence in this period when very little is written. However, it's very interesting that he had a Brythonic name as did the early kings of Anglosaxon Wessex. Which leads one to speculate that perhaps the invasion and conquest by the Anglosaxons was not as clear cut as what we previously thought it was.
