I saw a very convincing video here on YouTube called Neanderthals Profile of a Super Predator, that suggested that Neanderthals were really not that similar to Homo Sapiens. He concluded that we tend to make mock ups of them based on our own looks. However, they were quite different, their eyes were higher up I their skulls and far larger than ours so they could see in the dark. This is due to the fact that they hunted in the dark to catch the very large and ferocious prey that was the only food available in their icy environment. He also said that they skeletons showed that they were far bigger than us and due to the icy conditions had far more body hair. In fact they looked far more like a gorilla than a hairless human. There is evidence that they kidnapped humans both for food and sex. I must say, it was all quite convincing.
