Wouldn't it be the same whether you bought the house for $600k vs $300k? You lose a job you lose shelter. I guess it would be easier to keep the lower prices home if you're willing to take on a lower pay. But that typically means stepping down in career/position 😅

 @jizzyjake6783 That seems quite high of a savings (600K loan = 200-300K backup) for an average person. Lifestyle is subjective. How did you come up with that calculation?

 @Kevin-im1ns I'm sure they will contingent on how fast they'll get another job and what their savings are. Especially if they bought at a very low rate. You also don't know how much they bought their houses for, could be pre-pandemic . Your example has a lot of unknowns.

 @jizzyjake6783 it's still seems excessive of a savings. Will take you a while to get a house shooting for that job of a savings IMO. But to each his own. Best of luck

 @joshcobra11766 I'm not sure if I'm understanding your calculation. Depreciation is related to the value of your house, type, and it's demand. A $600K house losing equity won't have the same value for a $300k house. But like I said I don't think I'm fully comprehending your comment.

 @Kevin-im1ns ask where those 50 people live and let's check if 50 new houses go on listing within the same months?

 @markme4 I know that

 @Bethune98 How can we really know? Alternative to being laid off, the buyer gets promoted at work, gets annual raise, etc...lots of possibilities

 @yourbeautybff I'm not sure which of my comments you are referring to. I understand how house hacking works.

 @incredibleshrinkingfungus1731 that scenario will require atleast a few hundred thousands of unemployment. By then, I assure you we as a nation will have a bigger problem than the housing market
