The Conservative government have adopted the nativist rhetoric of describing the ECHR as a “foreign court”. The UK has been a founder member of the international court since 1959, of which we are a full member, that we help to run through our British representation on it, and a Briton sits as one of its judges. It is not, repeat not, an EU institution. The law, any law, is simply the brick wall of reality, which you may not like but which you cannot simply wish away.
