  1. Exercise #1 for coal advocates whining about lost jobs: how many obsolete or diminishing jobs can you list? Here are a few to get you started. Typewriter repair, ice harvester, switchboard operator, farmer, video rental clerk, travel agent, photography film developer, semiconductor processor, blacksmith, etc. Exercise #2: read about supply and demand effect on jobs. Economics 101. Exercise #3: how many coal advocates still heat their homes with coal instead of oil or gas?  Why do coal people think their job should be immune to progress or pollution control or a global economy or supply and demand? Why do they think they are owed a way to earn a living? Welcome to 2016.

  6. Pollution aside, coal electricity generation is about 35% efficient. Most of the energy is wasted heat. Even if coal could be burned clean the inefficiency of generation is reason enough to use alternatives like solar. If you burn incandescent bulb only about 1%--yes 1%--of the energy from the coal goes into producing light. These are facts regardless of who points them out. Yet when the government tries to regulate such things some people become determined to exercise their "right" to burn coal and use incandescent bulbs. Rebel against the nanny state. Doesn't matter that the government is correct and is acting in the people's interest. These people are like defiant little children who will play in traffic for no reason other than their parents told them not to.

  14. ***** Robert, I did not vote for Trump because of his anti-science anti-environment agenda. However, I admit you have a point about hypocrites burning fossil fuels. Yes, I continue to rely on those things. Because our infrastructure runs on them. Because companies have not made the investment in clean energy. However, I now burn wood for heat instead of oil. I don't waste electricity at home. If everyone cut back even a little on their energy use it would make a difference. But people are selfish and don't want to be the only ones sacrificing. The economy and job sector loves when people buy shit to keep the engine humming. Oh well, too bad for the environment, right? We won't be here to deal with the mess, right? The world population is driving energy use more than any other factor. Too many people are fucking and having kids. Birth control should be encouraged, not discouraged by religions. Abortions in first 6 months should be legal. The competition over resources is only going to get worse unless people stop being so myopic and selfish. Recycle. Do you really need to throw out your tube tv for a big HDTV? You want kids? Get a vasectomy and adopt. I have spoken.
