  1. Our cat ran off yesterday around 7PM. He's strictly indoors. He scurried outside through the front door when I was answering a salesman who knocked; I never saw him coming or heard his bell. I spent hours walking and driving around looking for him. We tried to sleep but could not stop crying and worrying about him being outside alone and scared, it was gutwrenching and devastating. We hadn't cried so much since our mothers died. Around 3:30 in the morning we heard a noise. We looked and he was in the bedroom! I'd left a shirt and his litter box outside next to the garage door. He must've come back and caught the scent. I don't know where he went or how far or how he found his way back; he's never outside so he doesn't know what the house looks like. It feels like a miracle. He is getting a can of solid albacore tuna today as a welcome home present.

  16. My cat is a stray neutered male that kept showing up in the yard and staring at me but would not approach. Finally after months he came to me and climbed on me purring and kneading. I fell in love with him and brought him indoors where he's been for over 2 years. Except last week he escaped out the door (I was talking to a salesman and stupidly held the door open to talk) and he ran off into the dark. I spent hours looking for him until 2 am. I was crying my eyes out afraid and sad he was gone forever. Worst feeling in the world. Devastated. We hadn't realized how attached we were to him. I left my shirt and his litter box outside by the garage door in case he wandered by. I left the house doors open a crack. At almost 4 am we saw movement in the bedroom It was him! He came back! I gave him lots of love and a can of solid tuna as a reward. I love my kitty more than words can say.

  17. Oh my god, I am so sorry! I feel sick. I know how devastated you are. Wish I could take away the pain. Our baby ran off but returned in 8 hours at 3 AM. We feel incredibly lucky. Again, you have my deepest sympathy.

  32.  @lisaweil3342  Why are you getting so defensive? Your statement that cats love people because of their personality is simply not true. They love people who treat them lovingly. But even that is not always true, because I had a girlfriend whose cat hated me despite my trying to befriend it. He wanted her all to himself and didn't like when I came to her apartment. He would attack me unprovoked and bite me; not playful bites but deep painful bites.
