I own a 2003 Element EX with 122k miles. I love it. Nothing else looks like an Element. I'm gonna drive it until the wheels fall off. I do all my own maintenance (fluids, brakes, belts). 1. If you want more power you have to rev over 5000rpm for the VTEC to kick in. Also, if you want quick acceleration you shouldn't be driving an SUV. I think it accelerates just fine for normal driving. 2. The rear seats sit very low to the floor and give very little legroom for adults. Only small kids would like them. 3. Loads of headroom. I'm 6'7" and still have space above my head. 4. Gas mileage is not good, about 20mpg city and maybe 25 highway. 5. Rear seats can fold up to the sides or be removed completely for max cargo space. I use my Element to transport firewood. I recommend the Honda Element Owners' Club site if you want to know anything and everything about it from owners.

1:10 Disconnecting the wires from that bracket is a KEY STEP. I can't stress this enough. Yours is the only video I've seen that shows how; NOBODY ELSE explains this, not even the shop manual, they all assume we know how to disconnect it. When I replaced my Element starter I could not figure out how to disconnect these wires from that black bracket, which forced me to leave the intake attached. Which made removal of starter a complete and utter PITA. Job took me 8 hours. So thank you for this video!

I love bulldogs. But this makes me glad I have a cat. Only 10 lbs. so his weight on me is not a problem.

@NoNonsenseKnowHow Thanks for replying so fast. I did this job about 7 years ago on my 2003 Element and so far the new starter is holding up fine. I'm not a pro mechanic by any means, just a DIYer. I am truly amazed at how fast you were able to do this job but that's experience for you!

Trust me, this is the easiest and fastest I've seen it done, and that's after doing it myself and watching several videos of others doing it.

@NoNonsenseKnowHow Eric the car guy does it from below but he has it on a lift. No way I'd try it from below without a lift!

There are several videos showing removal from below.

You encountered the same troubles I did! 1. I could not for the life of me figure out how to disconnect the wires from that black bracket below the intake. NOBODY explains or shows how, not even the shop manual. Care to elaborate how to disconnect them? I was forced to leave the intake attached and work around it. TOTAL PITA! 2. Starter bolts on mine were VERY tight even with penetrating oil. I needed a 3' pipe to get leverage. And they were just as bad going back in. This job took me 8 hours. I took several breaks because I got so pissed off. You make this job look so easy.

Judges were a joke. This was not even close. Lewis totally dominated.

Our bulldog looked like Reuben and did this.
