  2. The Battle of Midway basically reversed the roles of the Japanese and American navies. The Japanese navy was unable to mount a successful offensive after that and went on the defensive. The US navy finally came off a defensive position and was able to go on the offensive. Even if the Battle of Midway went with the Japanese prevailing, it still would have only been a matter of time before the same outcome happened in the Pacific theater.
