Granted that Pearl Harbor was a tragedy. In fact, my dad was at Hickham air field when the Japanese attacked and survived. But, the Japanese made many tactical errors that day. One of which was concentrating upon the battleships and not even knocking all of them out of action. They failed to immobilize the rest of the fleet of cruisers and destroyers leaving them virtually untouched. Also, the oil tanks and pumping facilities were unscathed by the bombing. The repair facilities were not bombed. And, most importantly failed to engage the aircraft carriers which just happen to be conveniently out on maneuvers. They also failed to land any troops to take over the island. For all their planning, the Japanese really blew it.

@10:19 Anyone know what those "fishing poles" sticking out the side of the carrier are?

Diesel is a lighter grade of oil than what is used on ships. Heavy oil or bunker oil is used mostly, I'm guessing because of the cost is less because it is not as refined and because the boilers are so huge that they can burn it.
