Within a four block radius of where I used to live, a generation ago there were two churches, three bakeries that each specialized in something different, a small market on almost every corner, a mens store, a womens store, three bars two restaurants, two meat markets all within walking distance. Now, they're all gone except one church and to go shopping you now have to hop in your car and drive four miles to the top of the hill for anything. Have we progressed? I don't think so.

  5. Doesn't LA have a school busing system whereby the concern of crossing streets is eliminated?

  6. Some local kids here in The Great Industrial Northeast walk but most are bused for safety.
