  1. You missed a few obvious ones. The Time Machine, 2001 a Space Odyssey, The Jetsons. Jetsons is an interesting one, set in 2062, so 100 years after the show aired, and a bit beyond 2000, but they got an awful lot correct. Video phones; TVs all over the house; George Jetson works 3 hours a day, 3 days a week at a factory where he is apparently the only employee with the AI computer RUDI running everything which could imply that he's a Technician. Also everyone lives in the sky apartments, ostensibly because its the future, flying cars, but we can infer that the ground is flooded and what isn't flooded is covered in trash. And that;'s where the poor people live who can't afford sky apartments with everything provided by robots and button press machines.

  2. Some countries have free Universities. Australia had them for a brief time before the politicians looked at how poorly the US system worked and thought 'we want that'

  3. The biggest problem with rail is not the Last Mile Problem, it's land rights. In well developed nations those drastically skyrocket costs, as do things like mountain ranges. HS2 in the UK went so over-budget in part because wealthy landowners insisted on needless tunnels so they didn't have to see trains.

  4. Life expectancy... well.... The average was 47 in the USA in 1900. In Australia it was 51-55 for men but only 26-27 for women.

  5. Before the Industrial Revolution life hadn't changed much for most people since the Roman empire fell and certainly not within a perceivable timeframe. ie. someones lifetime. Steam changed everything, its when the pace of technology started doubling every 50 years.

And their civ, as the global warming period came to an end around 10,000BP and the wild wheat diminished led into the deliberate cultivation of crops in that part of the world.

  9. By 2100 the uselessness of battery EVs will have long since led to the full development of Hydrogen powered cars, which were being developed in the 2000s before the Tesla boom put the brakes on H2 development.

  11. I incline to the belief that whoever came up with the Greek constellations was high as a kite, because none of them look remotely like what they are supposed to represent. That saucepan/ladle shaped "bear" being a classic example.

  12. Wow, been trying to find out what constellation 'the hammer' is for ages, and here it is, part of scorpio, the constellation that looks nothing like a scorpion.
