  1. The Renaissance probably has a lot to do with it, the re-discovery of Ancient Rome, Greece and Egypt and the Neo-classical movement through the filtered lens of historians at that time working with fragments of text already 1500 years old.

  3. The two libraries does explain the stories I was taught about how the Caesar fire destroyed half the library but it was rebuilt, but never again Great, and then eventually came to its end after the Muslims took Egypt, especially as they were religious centres.

  4. Modern Medicine also has a role to play in the 20th century population spike, people are living 20-30 years longer and infant mortality has plummeted. But yes, food is the basis of all, and as the world warms, there's going to be some famines later this century.

  5. Research has shown that people can carry loads of up to 20% of their own body weight without expending any extra energy beyond what they'd use by walking. Lugging a wheelbarrow around is not always that convenient either, especially over broken ground.
