@ The prohibition. But it was more of an in general statement about the straw-man argument of how its ok to blackwash today because they whitewashed historically, or its ok to cast women to play the roles of actual historical men because 200 years ago in England it was illegal for women to be on the Stage. Your statements hold no water.

@TheLightlock Full answer was censored, because of course it was. Suffice to say that yes the Prohibition was wrong, but you can't justify wrongs today because 200 years ago in England another wrong was committed. Or even 50 years ago in the USA.

@TheLightlock You brought it up. And people use the historical under-representation of women and coloured people in leading roles to justify present day casting decisions all the time. Apologies for assuming you were doing the same.

@TheLightlock Is this the 17th century? Is it currently illegal for men to be actors? Was Jesus a woman from Sub-Saharan Africa? Is it ok in your book for say Amber Heard to play Nelson Mandela? How about if Robert Downey Jr plays Cleopatra? Stop advocating for double standards and historical revisionism.

@ It is indeed an attention grab and the outrage is the entire point. If this was a production by an All Girls School, I wouldn't have an issue with it, but its not, it's an established actress in a professional production. An actress moreover who even before this had established herself as shall we say, a spokesperson for a hard-line ideology.
