  1. There's just too many flaws with the US election system as well. Australia is far from perfect, but at least we have preferential voting. Council elections are also Mail Ballots only, so takes no real time to vote, the bigger problem is generally not knowing or caring who is on the local council unless there is a scandal or they are just doing a bad job.
