  1. Sounds a bit like what happened when the Australian Government free eTax system suddenly became a private paid system a few years ago while the free service moved to the ATO weblink on myGov.

  2. I still find it odd that the US does their taxes at the start of the year. I'm in Australia and we do our taxes in July-August because that's when the new financial year is, based on Northern Hemisphere seasons.
