Yes. Russian SAMs brought those down. 11 altogether. USA ran. Ironically, today it is again Russia that is winning against USA (via proxy Ukraine). Russia no longer 'communist' and Russia is friends with China. The power balance in the world is changing. For the better. Russia and China do not have a history of invading countries, enslaving people (in modern times) like USA does. USA was created by white Christians who invaded and slaughtered 12+ Million native people... which might explain why USA loves to invade and kill so much.

@Orbital_Inclination Not really. Russian 'glide' bombs use old bombs but new guidance systems. Slow bombers (Russian or US) would get shot down. US used the B52s against weak/under-developed countries like Vietnam etc. But US is no match against China or Russia. Their engineering is superior. And US knows that.

@paulmuscat2542 Yes, US killed 3.5 Million Vietnamese who 'voted the wrong way'. US destroyed their democracy and would have kept on killing. But Russian SAMs brought down 11 B52s with their White Christian crews inside. US ran immediately. Vietnam became free and united, as it is today.

They happen because of 'water injection'. The engines are not strong enough for a loaded plane. So they spray water into the engine. This gives the engine a bit of extra power at the expense of burning more fuel less efficiently. This results in incomplete combustion, NO, CO and C. Some other planes used this hack as well.
