  1. I don't think they are 'failing'. They are tweaking the variables, knowing that their predictions (simulations) may not be accurate. So each 'failure' is just a data point.

  7. Unlikely. Pakistan is 'sunni' muslim, Iran is shia. They have old feuds, and Pakistani military gets lots of cash from US. On the other hand, Western Pakistan is closely aligned with Iran, and they may join (as militias).
