  1. Fined? No, you're the one who will be fined if you hack their chips to refill your cartridges. Remember, big companies write the laws, they aren't meant to benefit YOU.

  2. I'd argue even that is too much. That's how this all started and once again proved that "slippery slope" is NOT a logical fallacy. You want to be able to see how much ink is left? make the cartridges out of clear plastic. Done.

If HP's printers are so poorly designed that they allow installation of software to the printer from an ink cartridge, it's not the cartridge that's the problem! it shouldn't have any software interface whatsoever! But really the big deal is, why on earth do I still need to print ANYTHING in 2024??? Why do so many companies still force me to print things for BS reasons???? I don't want to even have to own a printer, and yet, I still have to print things on occasion, and usually there's no good reason why I should have to print it at all.
