  2. You're off by a few orders of magnitude. A skyscraper would be extremely light compared to the weight of water at that depth.

  3.  @SamPashmi  and what exactly do you think that would accomplish? It wouldn't change the pressure at that depth at all. The pressure is the same inside as outside. And going inside a shipwreck is extremely dangerous!

  4.  @SamPashmi  The titanic isn't some magical pressure vessel. The reason it's (realtively) intact is that the water inside is pushing outwards with the same force that the water outside is pushing inwards. When you walk into your house, the air pressure doesn't change from what it was outside, you still have 1 atmosphere of pressure on you, the act of going inside didn't change that. Same thing under water. The reason the submarine gets crushed, when the titanic doesn't, is because the submarine is trying to keep roughly one atmosphere of air inside, which is much less than the surrounding water pressure of about 400 atmospheres. The titanic on the other hand is full of water at that same 400 atmospheres of pressure.

  7. No idea what you mean by "polar prince", but detecting anything at those depths isn't so straight forward. First of all "radar" doesn't work underwater at all. They use sonar. Secondly, the deeper you go, the harder it is for surface sonar to detect, and if you actually get onto the bottom, it's nearly impossible for anything on the surface to tell the difference between your ship, and the bottom of the ocean. We do know that they stopped communicating, but that only proved that the communications gear stopped working, there was no way of knowing from that information whether the submarine was just sitting on the bottom intact and unable to reply, or whether it had been destroyed. If you're ever missing, I suspect you won't want them to stop spending money on search and rescue just because you might not be alive. I suspect you'll want them to keep searching until they know for sure!

  8. The world is full of people who aren't in their right mind. People will probably ask more questions now, and want subs that are actually certified. But there will be no shortage of people wanting to do this sort of trip. That said, it will likely not be with this company anymore, as I suspect they won't be around by this time next year.

  10. It seems likely that it happened so fast that the sensors wouldn't have reported anything until milliseconds before the full implosion. Likely not even enough time to give an alarm. Keep in mind that this sub was built to the absolute minimum to get to that depth, with no margin for error. The slightest imperfection in the hull would have been enough at that depth to trigger the implosion, and it wouldn't have been like in the movies where you hear creaking and groaning for half an hour before anything actually happens. The ocean is VERY unforgiving.
