I do clean the filter on occasion, it never seems to be that bad. My issue is that it also doesn't seem that effective. I've had a handful of times where large debris has gotten past it and clogged the pump. I don't understand how this happens, but it is quite problematic. I've really been doing my best to keep things like vegetable bits out of the dishwasher, because they seem to be the things that manage to get past the filter yet not dissolve.

Interesting, I just double checked the manual for my Bosch dishwasher also in North America, and it says to hook it up to the hot water, specifically 49° c or 120° f

@flatterkatz I actually have the same one he shows in this video, and I know I'm locking it into place correctly. My suspicion is that the bottom of it doesn't actually fully sit flush in the bottom of the well, allowing some debris to go down the center, and then get under the bottom and bypass the filter.

The pre-wash is the gateway drug. I initially convinced my wife to get gel (powders just aren't available around here) for the pre-wash while continuing to use tabs for the main wash. When we ran out of tabs, I just started using the gel for both and we never went back.

For most people, good luck finding something with phosphates these days, they've been removed from everything. My old dishwasher worked fine up until phosphates were removed, and then dishes just weren't clean anymore.

Weird and awesome are not mutually exclusive! I think he can honestly wear weird as a badge of honor!

There's a reason anything with metal plating tells you not to put it in the dishwasher! When I moved out from home I had some glassware with gold plated leaves on it, now they are just clear glass. I'm sure if I had hand washed them no harm would have come to the gold, however they're less tacky this way anyway!

Little bit of irony here in that you posted dishwasher video, I walked downstairs to my kitchen and noticed that my dishwasher had stopped mid-cycle and was flashing an error. Clogged! I love this European style dishwasher, but I do miss the spinning blades they put in the bottom of the North American versions! We do clean the filter regularly, I don't know how the big chunks managed to get around the filter, but they did.

It's a real shame that Bosch decided to bow too much to finish, and as a result pushes those tabs so hard that they don't even include a spot for pre-wash detergent, nor have any mention of it in the instruction manuals. I'm sure people would be much happier with their machines if they just added a simple divot near the detergent fill and labeled it pre-wash.

After the first video, we stopped using the tabs, switched to a gel, use it for pre-wash as well, and use less total. And get cleaner dishes! Our bosch dishwasher actually does not request pre-wash detergent either in the manual or anywhere inside or on the machine. I think people would be a lot happier with their products if they encouraged pre-wash detergent! Though I do see the advertising for the finish tabs all over it, so maybe they would get less money from the detergent people if they were actually showing you how to use your machine properly.
