  1. And yet, there are multiple different versions of them. My parents have... or had?... one that used an actual ratchet mechanism in the turning. So apparently either it was invented multiple times, or someone improved on the design (not certain the ratchet version is the improvement, seems more complicated than this one)

  2. What I learned from this video? There's more than one version of what I thought were the same sprinkler. My parents' one uses an actual ratchet mechanism in the turning. The propulsion is still done by the arm as in this version, but it doesn't just use friction to limit the movement. it's an actual ratchet ring all the way around the neck of the sprinkler, when it hits reverse it disables the ratchet for the spin the other way. For me. I just use one of those flat hoses with the pinholes down the length...
