I would like to see you compare tilting bolt systems to rotating bolt systems. Despite having owned SKS and SVT -40 rifles there is something in me that is a bit mistrustful of tilting locking bolts.

My understanding is that Eugene Stoner designed the AR system to reduce the mass of the BCG as it reciprocates. As for gas pressure holding the bolt closed, I don't think that happens. From what I have seen, if there is any gas pressure on the bolt from the cartridge the bolt can't unlock due to friction between the lugs of the bolt and barrel extension.

I would suggest that the main advantage to the AR system is the low mass of the BCG as it reciprocates.

Check out the AK Operator's Union 47-74 videos. Much more practical shooting advice that is applicable across platforms. Rob Ski is nearly as cool as Ian with a wackier accent!

Ah yes, a comparison of 5.45x39 to 5.56x45. Not at all interchangeable (slightly interchangeable in magazines) but for all practical purposes the same.
