  1. In Australia we had flash flood insurance from the sky and separate river flood insurance that cost extra. The Government then said if you wanted flash flood insurance then you had to have river flood insurance as well, obviously anywhere that might river flood made insurance unaffordable so people were no longer covered for flash flood any more. So much for the Government helping.

  2. ​ @TheSuperdodgy Flash flood insurance was affordable but the Federal Government made river flood insurance compulsory if you wanted flash flood insurance. The result was that many people could no longer afford flash flood insurance because they would have to have river flood insurance too.

  3. ​​ @TheSuperdodgy  In Australia if you already have a mortgage I don't think that you need flood insurance but for new mortgages you do.
