It used to have the biggest mall in the world too, west edmonton mall. I remember going there like 20 years ago was pretty cool.

This isn't a largely known fact but Alberta actually has the largest known oil reserve in the world. Only the currently extractable volume is ever quoted though because the technology to extract the rest hasn't been developed yet. It's several trillion barrels of oil worth. Yes trillion with a t.
18
It's really not even a hard call, just makes sense. Dunno why so many Canadians are upset lol. Nothing would change in that Canadians would cease to be Canadian no more than any other culture in any areas that became states. Furthermore it would save Canadian culture giving how abused immigration in Canada has become soon you may as well call it south east Asia it's so ridiculous.
14
Canada's economy is self limited by environment regulations. It has more natural resources than most places of the world. I bet you don't even know it has the largest oil reserve of the world. It should be richer than Saudi. It also has access to practically unlimited cheap power to fuel industry with all the potential hydro power. It has uranium reserves that it could also utilize for power for industry. The country is mismanaged. It should be one of the wealthiest in the world from the potential of cheap power to fuel industry alone. It should be the industry capitol of the world.
7
I mean winning conflicts he started like with Canada over lies... lol
7
@moneyballX Problem with Canada is money is needed to develop it's resources, USA can provide that. There could be so much wealth brought into both countries if they just worked together more closely. Canada can supply enormous amounts of cheap energy to fuel an industry boom in both countries too. Water can be diverted from Canada in massive amounts for agriculture in the USA too. There should be so much wealth in both countries yet it's being stolen.
5
@jacka5676 lol I just imagined a giant statue of trumps upper bust with his arms outstretched being the physical boarder wall rofl
5
The dairy tariff is what Trump agreed to in his last trade deal and furthermore it doesn't even happen unless a quota is hit with US imports in order to prevent market manipulation flooding a smaller market with cheap product in order to collapse it and take it over and raise prices once Canadian farmers go out of business.
4
@miss_america8643 You fail to recognize several things. Opening up Canada to foreign investment and influence. Second Canada is fueling the American industry with cheap power and cheap material. Think of the cost for the USA to have to import what 40% of it's energy and material across the ocean. Canada can also reduce production and invest in end product production for those raw materials itself taking a hit in the short term while reaping a big reward in the end. Canada is not Mexico, it's an advanced nation. I'm sure you remember Canada provided the uranium, sanctioned and help build the nukes the USA deployed.
4
It was all downhill once you started needing a passport to cross the boarder.
4
@DamonNomad82 lmao of course Alberta is the most desirable, it literally has the biggest known oil reserve in the world
4
@ You made a massive mistake, it's millions of tons of potash not billions. That's why they are basically the biggest user and importer of potash basically taking the whole export supply of Canada every year. And the production from their own supply can not even remotely meet the demand the USA needs.
3
@ False, Canada propped up the US economy by stabilizing it's energy for the last 20 years supplying most of it's oil and at a massive subsidized discount no less while the USA destabilized the oil in the middle east to no detriment to their own country.
3
@ Wrong context, it's about Trump not becoming what the left said he is.
3
As far as Canada that's what he is doing as literally nothing changed aside from Trudeau saying Canada will work closer together with intel for securing boarder and monitor it more. The billion dollar project was already going. So virtually no change from Canada from what I see.
3
Makes more sense to start with some EU type deal, then maybe some sort of eventual merger. Unlike some I don't think Mexico should be part of it. Canada and the USA are basically the same. Mexico is just totally different in so many ways.
3
lol the trade war Trump started over lies, where are these huge tariffs he claims Canada charges? The dairy one was a lie, the drug and border claim was a lie. He should have never lumped Canada in with Mexico and China tariffs it makes him look nuts/greedy just like the left has said all along.
3
@ Yes exactly, and let that sink in how abusive the Canadian government has been to it's people. Canada should be richer than Saudi in that there should be all that money from exploiting all that oil enriching it's citizens and communities. Like Trump brought up sovereign wealth fund. The oil and other resources has been completely mismanaged by the Canadian government. Probably the wealth funneled out of the country.
3
no canada or mexico either
3
Why not, when they see how good it is more will join. But there should be something extra for the Canadians that join whether that's a payout or what. I mean why should the USA get it for free, that would mean they literally paid more for Greenland than Alberta or Canada. Canada quite literally has the most oil in the world, among a lot of other resources, wealth. Canadians that join the USA should get something directly for it. And the oil perhaps should be nationalized with the profits put in that new fund to help it's own citizens like Saudi does.
2
@ <<<< wooosh, canada has supplied the energy(oil) for most of the country for over two decades now stabilizing the economy of the USA. And at a massive subsidized discount no less and Trump lies and says USA subsidizes Canada lol. The only reason the USA buys the specific product it already has is because it's cheaper from Canada with the exchange rate.
2
@ Oh ya forget to remind you how Canada is one of the only nations in the world that can exert "food power". Might want to look that up.
2
@ lmao you have no idea, you couldn't even find your own country on a world map far less Canada.
2
The stipulation is you must start with Quebec for one year. If something by chance happens we don't talk about it lol.
2
I have a feeling you are being serious... lmao I'll choose to be nice.
2
@ Well it's the second largest country in the world with a small population 90% of which is all along the USA boarder. Along with it having the largest coastline of any country in the world, more than double that of even the country in second place giving countless unmonitored largely rural at best places of entry. That is just starting to describe it. Remember USA can't even keep tabs on its' southern LAND boarder.
2
You forgot to mention the biggest craziest factor. The USA and Canada are the two biggest trading partners in the world. More trade goes between those two countries than any other two countries in the world. And Trump just started a trade war with the country that agreed to his NAFTA deal he put forward! He seems insane to the rest of the world.
2
@ No I'm talking about free travel and so on. Their culture, crime, language, economic status of citizens and so on is just vastly different for them to be essentially incorporated into the USA and Canada.
2
Hmmm in that case maybe Quebec is for sale to Russia for 1 dollar... two can play at that game.
2
@zxyatiywariii8 not long ago you could just drive across the border with a drivers license...
2
oh my sweet summer child, if only you knew about how dependent the USA's energy is and has been on Canadian oil. In fact Canada propped up the whole USA for almost two decades with their cheap 20% subsidized oil to USA while USA destabilized oil in the middle east to no detriment to the USA. Yet now Trump starts a trade war over lies with Canada it's biggest trading partner, and ally.
1
@justinedse8435 That is completely false, Canada propped up the US economy by stabilizing it's energy for the last 20 years supplying most of it's oil and at a massive subsidized discount no less while the USA destabilized the oil in the middle east to no detriment to their own country thanks to Canada. Let the implications of that sink in. So what Trump is doing to Canada is very dirty. Especially given his accusations of drugs and tariffs are a flat out lie. Basically he is stabbing Canada in the back after they've had the USA's back.

What do Canadians get out of it? The thing is every Canadian should get a massive buyout if Canada joins the USA. I'm talking 500 thousand to a million a person. Canada should quite literally be one of the richest countries in the world with all the extremely cheap energy and massive amount of resources it has. They aren't being utilized. That doesn't mean they don't exist or won't or can't be. Becoming the 51st state is giving them away for free with nothing in return. It's like giving away an unrealized inheritance. It's worth hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of trillions of dollars. If the USA wants Canada they can buy it from the citizens.
1
@ That's my concern USA would totally reject them in this hypothetical and they'd just stay their own country lol
1
@MegaDarkness5000 <<<Woooosh
1
@ everything could have been so nice if all the immigration absurdity didn't mess things up. we probably would have progressed to having a EU type deal between USA and Canada with even easier travel and daily integration of being able to live our lives between the two countries.
1
There will be no annexing. If the USA wants Canada they can buy it from it's citizens. Another 35 trillion or so for a million per citizen is a steal considering the resources make it worth more than almost any other land in the world. And that 35 trillion will be spent in the american economy as they'll then be part of it. But it makes zero sense for Canadians to give away a country worth hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of trillions just from natural resources alone far less the land itself, water rights, incoming gdp from citizens and so on. Canadians need to rightfully be compensated.
1
@ You seem to forget long range drones are a thing now... the huge freedom of areas on the coastline to choose from means countless areas to deposit drugs for pickup from boats long range off the coast... you are thinking too old school
1
The irony is Canada did almost nothing it wasn't already doing... it already had the billion dollar fentinyl task force. So what does this tell us? Was Trump just testing the waters? The tarrifs on China and Mexico make sense and the Mexican one he did use for boarder security but there never was an issue with Canada to start with, even the billion dollar fentinyl task force is pointless unless deaths are rising in Canada and so on can't speak on that.
1
You can't make me eat your artificially colored fruit loops, you'll have to shove it in my mouth.
1
@ That's insane. There is just so much corruption everywhere it's infuriated and lets face it, it always comes down to corruption.
1
@geoffrust6787 I think Trump knows all of this which is why he keeps trolling about Canada. He wants them because all of it's resources would easily and cheaply fuel his golden age of manufacturing and industry revolution. And frankly with how Canadian citizens are seeing little from it they may as well join.
1

1
The point is the 200+ billion to get back, you think Trump cares otherwise? lol you are delusional.
1
Is Alberta joining the USA even a small possibility or is this all talk? I mean it all seems like a pipe dream that if put to a vote the majority would vote to leave... are even 10% of Albertains wanting to leave? That's the problem with the internet voices and views don't always represent the majority viewpoint. Just look at media vs Trump winning.
1
@ibrahim6960 had so much fun at the waterpark with that innertube river, the submarine ride, glow in the dark mini golf, roller coaster, me and friends rented scooters and raced them around the mall and so on.
1
Everything has been a nightmare last 15 years Canada and USA. What really needs to happen is Canada and the USA force foreign real estate owners to sell and not hold real estate or make it very hard and like only individuals. And secondly force companies that own all the vast real estate to sell too. Talking about housing real estate. Also address the ridiculous tuition cost rises that are many fold what they were just a few decades ago.
