Just a reminder, 99% of all species of life that have existed have gone extinct, life isn't that tenacious. It's designed to exist in very specific environments. The genome can only adapt so far. Even assuming evolution functional and exists, the rate of which it must happen makes it from a logistics standpoint a non-answer. Life from earth has been seeded across our solar system on literally every body of the solar system that is how much mass has left the earth but it cannot survive far less adapt or evolve because the requirements for life are so specific. It's a "miracle" life and our planet and everything that makes it what it is exists and can support life.

  27.  @ghostface2156  Plastic is not actually a huge problem. The problem is proper waste management. As you said some bacteria can eat plastic, I believe I already saw an article this last year of an enzyme created using some new data science for breaking it down. If not it will be one day. Said enzyme will be commercially produced and used to break down plastic in the future. Will be far cheaper than recycling and will be the responsible way for mass disposal of plastics given plastic is so cheap to make. Bioplastics are pretty much a joke and such an enzyme will put a quick end to them most likely aside from niche uses such as say growing plant matter to make bioplastics on mars.
