@cauliflower2003 There have been asian stores doing this for decades? If you are talking about just buying bulk, lots of people not just asians have been doing that forever.

That isn't an issue for the West. That is an Asian issue. They are the ones throwing their trash in the oceans not the rest of the world.
16
No you don't. The Western world doesn't dump garbage in the ocean. We use landfills so the issue of plastic is almost non existent. It's Asia and Africa that is dumping their waste in the ocean and causing all this plastic pollution.
15
See I find it the opposite. A big turn off she actively went out of her way to get someone elses used garbage instead of just buying new stuff that's cheap and would have looked much nicer. Biglots for example I've seen a leather couch for 100-200 dollars. Far less all the other stuff she got. She basically wasted her money. Just fyi you can spraypaint new stuff to match also...

@fairy5484 No that's exactly the point. Every country does not dispose of their garbage in the ocean. We know exactly where all this garbage AND plastic waste in the ocean is coming from. It's from a handful of rivers where garbage is dumped in all in Asia except for one in Africa. It's literally is Asia's fault. This is an irrelevant concern for the Western world. Here, read up on it. https://www.dw.com/en/almost-all-plastic-in-the-ocean-comes-from-just-10-rivers/a-41581484

@Chotibunder77 Depends on brand. Much of it is liquidation products other companies buy super cheap and resell. Like from stores that went bankrupt from covid or last seasons styles that they never sold and don't want to waste warehouse space on, same thing with clothing like at burlington coat factory and ross, tj max. They can sell it sometimes for cheaper than it even cost to make because they never paid for it made they bought it liquidation and resell. Example steinmart went bankrupt. I found a nice tommy hilfigur suit at burlington, and found the steinmart tag still attached inside. They forgot to remove it. Same thing with art and furnature and stuff at home goods. There is no reason to buy someone elses donated used trash which likely costs around the same anyways. And you can always spray paint and modify new stuff too. Especially when you get it cheap.

@Roxana Lisbel Gentrifying is a good thing. How pathetic is someone who complains that someone else is coming and making the world a better place and reducing crime and poverty in the area and breathing new life into it.
6
@DrSwoose True or not, that's completely irrelevant.
4
@noiz1762 The racist wants to bring up racism. The hypocrisy.
4
@lindnesday7434 Given I'm the only one bringing up valid points and you are just spewing insults like a tiny beat up child. I would say otherwise.
3
Anuj Kushwaha "Then?" Clearly they aren't all dumping in the ocean.

Buy new for the same price or cheaper. There is zero reason to buy someones used garbage in the year 2021. Stuff is cheap and looks good.

@sweetembrace6706 lmfao what kind of a clown would even make such an argument about contributing to "waste" rofl. As if there is even a waste issue dumdum. Look into the scientific literature, the planet can sustain current Western waste management with no notable issues for hundreds of years. Sounds like you drank the koolaid. I bet you think paying tax on a gas prevents climate change or a mask prevents infection from a aerosolized virus. Get BACK! 6 feet! I don't want to catch the stupidity!

@206REGGAE ok trash queen

@resmur8095 The problem is that's not the conversation, obviously, which I'm sure I pointed out somewhere too.
1
@resmur8095 "Don't look at others when "I" can still improve?" No, make relevant comments sticking to the context of the conversation.

@resmur8095 No landfills don't poison the land and release CO2 and methane gas in any noteworthy levels. Landfills are dug then lined with a barrier before being filled then buried. All the waste is mummified and barely decomposes even if it's biodegradable so whether it's plastic or something else it's all basically the same. Also industry is the only noteworthy source of CO2 and methane large enough that there is room for change that can make any impact. Peoples day to day lives are irrelevant in the global warming picture. Pollution yes, global warming no.
1
@resmur8095 Yes Western countries make money selling this raw material waste. But like I said earlier it's irrelevant. If we never sold it, it would go in landfills not the ocean. If another country chooses to buy it then it becomes their responsibility. We all know the amount of plastic sold is nothing in comparison to the amount produced and used in Asia so that's is a ridiculous argument and remember those Asian countries that buy the plastic waste recycle it into new plastic pellets to make new plastic products so it does not go in the ocean.
1
@resmur8095 You are arguing off tangent. Stick to the topic. I never said landfills don't leak waste or don't have issues. I said landfills are done in a way there is not decomposition meaning it's silly to bring up how plastic is slow to decompose given the rest of the waste it's with is the same. Secondly landfills clearly are safer for the environment than dumping trash in the ocean. You are basically arguing landfills are worse than dumping in the ocean because that's the actual topic plastic in the ocean. If you aren't then don't go off on that tangent. Once again look at the point I was making, day to day human activity isn't the same as ALL industry. You cannot make the comparison or make the ridiculous argument this is on the general population. Carbon and greenhouse gas waste is an industry issue, your chart clearly shows it. 12% COMMERCIAL, and residential, 29% transporation(which is used for heavily for industry and commerial). So clearly the amount the population produces is quite insignificant. Thorium reactors to power the power grid of the planet which would also allow for electric cars would cut emissions massively. There is also agricultural waste which I'm sure doesn't even include the waste from plant farming that gets tilled back in the soil, that alone would likely be enough to not only take out more carbon than we put out but start lowering it by turning all that waste into biochar and putting it back in the soil. Takes no special technology the Aztecs did it. It's beyond silly to shift any blame away from industry to people. All the meaningful change that could happen is only there. Also once again let me remind you the conversation was plastic in the ocean. This isn't the West but Asian. We do not need to worry about this in the same way nor are causing it. Moronic conversation, just like all the idiots thinking we should ban plastic straws.
1
@resmur8095 I'm sorry but you need to go back to ESL. I explained myself and position quite clearly yet you are still asked and bringing up things already addressed along with being unable to establish the contest of what you read the prior conversation we are supposed to be talking about. Even after clarifying for you the topic again you still seem clueless. I'm sorry but you don't know English well enough to have a coherent conversation.

@sarahchoi2657 Just like it's human nature that there is excess food that gets wasted in an abundant society. Some things are fringe and not going to change in any big way anytime soon. Just like throwing away batteries. You can recycle them but most people don't.
1
@cloud darling Talk about poor reading comprehension if that was your take away.
1
@Roxana Lisbel You might want to reply with points supporting your argument instead of just saying you're wrong and pmsing Felicia. You know what a hypocrite is right? That's you.
1
@cloud darling You are talking about the short term. Crime will eventually reduce more and more as the slums and the criminals that cause this crime are forced out of the neighboring areas... As the White man fixes, restores, and makes new what's been abused, desecrated and let to ruin.
1
@8BitDarkNESsR3v14 It's clearly not garbage if they are buying it.

dev gana Singamore is a small rich country that can easily install and regulate such things and doesn't have heavy industry or consumer exports really. Singapore is a special paradise lol. It makes more sense to develop cheap recycling. Plastic isn't going away, it's cheap, sanitary and highly multi functional. The places causing a issue with plastic don't have a waste management infrastructure, so maybe start there. If countries don't comply, sanction them. They want the miracle of plastic? Then they are required to dispose of it like the rest of the world does or heavy sanctions.
